About

The Art of Fencing. Since 1927.

Palm Beach Fencing Club was founded nearly a century ago, and today, we're writing the next chapter. Expert foil and épée instruction for kids, teens, adults, and active seniors in West Palm Beach, FL.

Our Story

Palm Beach Fencing Club was founded in 1927 by Master Fencer P.J. Rosier, one of the earliest fencing clubs established in South Florida. Like many historic clubs, PBFC has seen periods of growth and periods of quiet over the decades.

Today, the club is in a new chapter. With certified coaches, a growing roster of young athletes and adult fencers, and a training program built for every level from first-timers to competitors, PBFC is carrying forward the same mission it started with: teaching the art of fencing in a way that builds character, confidence, and community.

We teach foil and épée to fencers ages six and up. Our classes, camps, and private lessons are designed for kids, teens, adults, and active seniors, because fencing is one of the rare sports that genuinely works for every stage of life.

What We Stand For

Honor — Fencing begins and ends with a salute, a tradition of mutual respect that is centuries old. At PBFC, we carry that standard into every interaction, every class, and every competition.

Discipline — Fencing is an individual sport. Your progress is a direct result of your effort. That lesson — that you control your own growth, is one of the most powerful things a young person or an adult can learn.

Community — We're a club, not a drop-in class. Our members know each other. They cheer for each other at tournaments. They push each other in practice. The friendships built at PBFC last well beyond the strip.

Joy — If it's not fun, it doesn't stick. Our coaches create an environment where athletes are challenged and supported in equal measure, where the hard work of training is fueled by a genuine love for the sport.

Growth Beyond the Strip — Fencing teaches people how to think, not just how to compete. On the strip, they learn to read a situation, make decisions under pressure, and take responsibility for their own outcomes. Off the strip, those same skills become leadership, critical thinking, and the confidence to navigate life's challenges. We believe fencing is one of the most effective tools for raising thoughtful, capable people who contribute to their communities — not just collect trophies.

For Kids & Teens

Young fencers at PBFC don't just learn to fence, they learn to think. Fencing builds the kind of focus, composure, and problem-solving ability that shows up in the classroom, in college applications, and in life. Our youth programs start at age 6 and run through junior and cadet competitive levels.

For Adults

Looking for a workout that actually engages your brain? Fencing combines full-body fitness with real-time strategy. Our adult members come for the exercise and stay for the community. No experience necessary, just show up ready to learn.

For Active Seniors

Fencing is one of the rare sports you can start or continue at any age. It sharpens reflexes, improves balance and coordination, and keeps the mind fully engaged. Competitive age categories run well into your 70s and beyond. If you want to stay sharp and active, there's nothing quite like it.

Fencing Is a Family Sport

At PBFC, we don't just welcome your child, we welcome your family.

We hold monthly Happy Sibling Workouts where brothers and sisters join in for games and warm-ups, even if they're not fencers themselves. We run Family Tournaments where parents and kids team up and compete together for the coveted Family Victory cup. And we offer a 10% discount for parents who take adult classes, because leading by example is the most powerful thing a parent can do.

Every quarter, we host free coach-parent conferences where families and coaches sit down together to discuss progress, set goals, and make sure every athlete is thriving physically and emotionally. We also bring in outside professionals, sports psychologists, nutritionists, and experienced athlete-parents, to support families on the journey.

We believe the best athletic development happens when coaches and parents work as partners. That's not just a philosophy, it's how we operate.

Coaching That Goes Beyond Drills

Our USA Fencing–certified coaches teach foil and épée to fencers of every level, from a six-year-old's very first lesson to an experienced competitor preparing for nationals.

What makes coaching at PBFC different isn't credentials alone. It's the relationships our coaches build. They learn how each fencer thinks, what motivates them, when to push and when to encourage. They care about your child's confidence as much as their footwork.

We keep our classes small because individual attention isn't a luxury, it's the whole point. Whether you're here to compete or here to grow, you'll never feel like a number.
