Programs
At Palm Beach Fencing Club, every fencer gets training that fits their age, experience, and goals. Our classes are structured but never stiff, athletes learn precise technique, strategy, and analytical thinking in an environment that's energized, supportive, and fun.
All programs are taught by our certified coaches in foil and épée. No experience is needed to start. We provide equipment for all beginners.
Our programs follow the official USA Fencing age categories, so your child's training aligns with the same structure used at local, regional, and national competitions.
Beginner Youth, Musketeers (Ages 6–7)
Your child's first step into fencing. Musketeers develop coordination, footwork, and basic blade skills through games and structured play. This program is designed to spark a love for the sport and build a foundation for everything that follows. Classes work around school schedules and holiday periods.
Youth Development (Ages 8–14)
Our youth development programs follow USA Fencing's official age categories. Each level builds on the last, developing stronger technique, deeper tactical thinking, and increasing competition readiness as fencers progress.
Y10 (Youth 10) Building a strong foundation. Fencers develop coordination, footwork, and early tactical awareness in a supportive, high-energy environment. This is where the fundamentals take shape and the excitement for competition begins.
Y12 (Youth 12) Taking skills to the next level. Technical training, strategic gameplay, and structured exercises help fencers refine their technique and gain their first real competition experience through local and regional events.
Y14 (Youth 14) Sharpening skills and developing a competitive mindset. Athletes work on advanced techniques, tactical thinking, and begin competing more seriously in regional and Super Youth Circuit events.
Note: Y8 (Youth 8) is commonly offered at the local level, though it is not an official USA Fencing national category. Our Musketeers program covers this age group.
Competitive Track, Cadet, Junior and Senior
For fencers who are ready to compete at higher levels. These programs build on the youth development foundation with more intensive training, advanced tactical preparation, and mental conditioning for tournament competition.
Cadet (Under 17) Advanced technique, tactical drills, and mental preparation for fencers competing at regional and national levels, including NACs and Junior Olympics qualification.
Junior (Under 20) Refined skills, sophisticated strategy, and mental resilience. Juniors train to perform at national competitions and lay the groundwork for potential college fencing recruitment.
Senior (Open, 13+) The open competitive category. Individualized coaching and support for athletes pursuing Division I, II, and III competition at the national level.
As our club grows, so does our competitive track. Our coaches will help you set goals, prepare for tournaments, and develop the tools, technical and mental, to compete with confidence at every level.
Adult Beginner Program
You don't need experience. You don't need to be in great shape. You just need to be willing to try something new.
Our adult program is built for true beginners, people who have never held a blade before and want to learn in a welcoming, low-pressure environment. Our coaches are experienced at teaching adults from scratch and will work with you at your own pace.
Some of our adult members fence for fitness and stress relief. Others develop a competitive itch and start entering tournaments. Both paths are welcome. Either way, you'll get a full-body workout that challenges your mind as much as your muscles, and you'll join a community of interesting people who make every session something to look forward to.
Military and First Responders Program
Fencing was born from the military tradition, and that connection still runs deep.
For veterans and first responders, the transition out of service often means losing the structure, the mission focus, and the tight-knit community that defined your daily life. Fencing gives all three of those back.
On the strip, you'll find the same qualities that drove you in service, discipline, composure under pressure, tactical thinking, and respect for your opponent. Off the strip, you'll find a community that trains together, competes together, and shows up for each other.
This program is open to all active-duty military, veterans of any branch, law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS personnel. No fencing experience is required. Our coaches will work with you from the ground up.
Whether you're looking for a physical outlet, a mental challenge, or simply a group of people who understand the value of structure and camaraderie, there's a place for you here.
Senior Fencing (Active Adults and Fitness)
Fencing is one of the best-kept secrets in fitness for active adults over 50.
It improves balance, strengthens reflexes, builds coordination, and provides genuine cardiovascular exercise, all while keeping the mind fully engaged with real-time problem solving. It's low-impact enough to be sustainable and stimulating enough to never get boring.
Our coaches adapt training for each individual. Whether you're looking for a new form of exercise, a way to stay mentally sharp, or a social community that meets regularly, fencing delivers on all three.
Veteran Competitors (40+)
USA Fencing offers dedicated competitive categories for fencers age 40 and over, with sub-categories for 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+. If you're an experienced fencer who wants to keep competing, or an adult member who's developed the skills and wants to test them in a tournament setting, our veteran program supports your competitive journey.
Fencing truly is a lifelong sport, and the veteran community is one of the most passionate and welcoming groups in all of athletics.
Private Lessons
One-on-one instruction with our experienced coaches. Private lessons focus on developing proper form, control, tactics, and strategy tailored to your specific goals.
Private lessons are ideal for fencers who want accelerated development, focused work on a specific technique, or preparation for an upcoming competition. They're also a great option for adults or seniors who prefer individual attention over group classes.
Sessions can be scheduled individually or in packs to fit your schedule. Our coaches bring training from multiple schools of fencing, giving you access to a range of teaching approaches and techniques.
Summer Camps
PBFC runs summer fencing camps for kids who want to try fencing for the first time or sharpen their skills during the break. Camps are a great way to experience the sport in a fun, immersive setting without a long-term commitment.
Camp details, dates, and registration are available on our camps page.
