Palm Beach Fencing Club is growing, and we're looking for coaches to grow with us.
What began as a single after-school program has expanded into a full slate of youth, adult, senior, and competitive offerings, plus new club fencing programs in Palm Beach County middle schools, with more schools joining every semester. As our membership and programs expand, so does our need for experienced coaching. We currently have two open positions.
Fencing Coach — Foil & Épée
Palm Beach Fencing Club — West Palm Beach, FL
Position Summary
Palm Beach Fencing Club, founded in 1927 and one of the longest-standing fencing programs in Florida, is seeking a qualified Fencing Coach to lead instruction in foil and épée. This role is central to the club's mission of developing fencers of all ages and skill levels, from beginner youth classes to competitive athletes preparing for regional and national events.
Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct group classes, private lessons, and competitive training sessions in foil and épée
- Provide technical instruction in footwork, bladework, tactics, rules, scoring, and safety
- Develop individualized training plans for competitive fencers preparing for USA Fencing sanctioned events
- Supervise and coach fencers at tournaments, including travel to regional and national competitions as needed
- Maintain a safe, disciplined, and welcoming training environment for youth and adult members
- Uphold SafeSport standards in all interactions with minors and fellow coaches
- Assist with equipment maintenance, including basic armory work and inventory of weapons and protective gear
- Communicate regularly and professionally with fencers, parents, and club leadership regarding progress, scheduling, and program needs
- Support club growth through participation in open houses, demonstrations, and community outreach events
- Uphold the standards of sportsmanship, character, and respect that have defined the club since its founding
Qualifications
- Demonstrated coaching or competitive experience in foil and épée; certification through USA Fencing (or equivalent national federation) preferred
- Prior experience instructing youth and/or adult fencers in a club, school, or academy setting
- Strong understanding of current USA Fencing rules, safety standards, and equipment requirements
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work with a diverse membership of ages and experience levels
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Must be SafeSport certified or willing to become SafeSport certified within 7 days of starting
- CPR/First Aid certification required or obtainable within 3 months of hire
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including after-school hours, evenings, and weekends, with occasional travel for competitions

Youth Fencing Instructor — Musketeers & Y8 Program
Palm Beach Fencing Club — West Palm Beach, FL
Position Summary
We're looking for someone who can turn a first fencing lesson into a kid's favorite part of the week. This role leads our Musketeers and Y8 program, serving fencers under age 8, and it's built for an instructor who thinks in games, not drills, someone who can dress up footwork as an obstacle course, turn target practice into a game of tag with blades, and make a six-year-old feel like a real fencer from day one. Technical fundamentals still matter here, but the real skill is making a young child fall in love with the sport before they even realize they're learning anything.
Responsibilities
- Plan and lead age-appropriate group classes for children under 8, teaching footwork, bladework, and fencing fundamentals through games, imaginative play, and structured drills that don't feel like drills
- Build a classroom that's high-energy and genuinely fun, the kind of class kids ask their parents about on the drive home
- Keep young children safe, focused, and engaged with patient, consistent, positive classroom management
- Share each child's progress with parents in a way that's encouraging and specific, celebrating small wins along the way
- Uphold SafeSport standards in all interactions with minors
- Help with equipment setup, sizing, and basic maintenance for youth-sized gear
- Collaborate with other PBFC coaches on curriculum and program development for our youngest fencers
- Support club growth through open houses, demonstrations, and community outreach
- Model the sportsmanship, character, and respect that have defined this club since 1927
Qualifications
- Fencing experience at the high school and/or collegiate level strongly preferred
- Real experience teaching or coaching elementary-aged kids, in fencing or another sport or activity, required, you know how a room full of six-year-olds actually works
- A genuine love of working with young children and the patience to meet them exactly where they are
- A gift for creative, playful teaching, the ability to turn any fundamental into a game a 6-year-old wants to play again tomorrow
- Strong classroom management skills, calm, clear, and consistent, even when the room gets chaotic
- Excellent communication with both kids and parents
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Must be SafeSport certified or willing to become SafeSport certified within 7 days of starting
